Article on "Algebra"

Introduction :

The Algebra is one of the most important branches in mathematics. The important characteristics of this branch is tye symbolic applications of alphabet. We can use symbolic alphabet for any number instead of a particular number. Secondly, since the alphabet is used for any unknown quantity and number, we can construct algebraic expression following mathematical operations. A Muslim mathematician and astronomer named Muhammad ibn Musa al-khwarizmi first discoverd algebra. Algebra includes - Coefficients, indices/exponent, algebraic expressions, addition, subtraction, multiplication & division of algebraic expressions etc.

-ssions.

Algebraic symbols :

The fundamental characteristics of algebra is numerals as well as alphabetical symbols. The algebraic symbols of algebra is used in are algebraic symbols are - a,b,c... p,q,....x, y, z etc. which are used to express unknown known or numbers or expressions in algebra.

Variable :

Variable is such a meaning which meaning is changeable. The value of variable is not fixed. It can take different values. For example - The nunerical value of x can be 5,6,10 or any other number. So, x is an example of variable.

Coefficients :

When a number is attached with single term multiplier, that multiplier is called the numerical coefficient in a expression as a multiplien is numenical coefficient or coefficient of the expression. As for example - 3x, 5y, 9a are single term expressions and 3, 5, 9 are the coefficients of x, y, a respectively.

Indices/Exponent :

The number of times of factors occuring in a factor of any expression is called index and the facton is called base. Example- the factor 2 once in 2, the numben is called index and its base is 1.

Power :

a is an algebraic expression. If a is multiplied once, twice or thrice by a, it will be -

a x a= a², where a2 is the second power of a and it is read as square of a.

a x a x a = a³ ; where a3 is the 3rd power of a and it is read as cube of a.

Algebra is expressions : The meaningful combination or the arrangement of numbers and the operational signs are called the algebraic expressions. Examples - 5x, 2x+3y=5x+3y-z, 5x+2x×c+y etc.

Algebraic terms :

Each part of the algebraic expressions linked with the addition (+) and the subtraction (-) sign is known as algebraic terms. As for example - 2x+4y is an expression and here 2x and 4y are two terms which are linked with addition sign. There are three terms in algebra- 4x is ine term. 2x+3z is binomial and a-2b+4 is a trinomial expression.

If we discuss about algebra, it will actually never end as it is one of the broad areas in mathematics. The truth is we use algebra quite frequently in our everyday lives and without even realizing it! We not only use algebra we actually need algevra need algebra to solve most of our problems that include calculations. The ability to grasp complex, changing and abstract comcepts stimulates the brain, helping the students learn how to think in new ways. Algebra also helps students organize their thinking, making it easier for them to craft responses when confronted with complicated or dynamic situations. It moves us from basic math and prepares us for statistics and calculus. It is useful for many jobs some of which a student may enter as a second career. It also reinforces logical thinking and is beautiful.
